That is the sentence astrophysicist and pastor Dr. Hugh Ross has been writing since 2002, when Lights in the Sky and Little Green Men first argued that the mystery in the sky is not a visitor from another world. In studio with Jan the Miracle Hunter he said it again, this time against a louder age of government disclosure, fighter-pilot videos, and films that train the heart to hope for little green friends.
The real residual, he contends, is a set of interdimensional entities whose trade is spiritual deception.
The night sky still looks crowded with wonder. Ross wants readers to keep the wonder and lose the lie.
When Disclosure Made the Crisis Feel Physical
The crisis is not that people see lights.
Ross has seen fireballs four times the width of the moon. He has taken calls from state police on motorcycles “gaining on” the morning star. Venus at 4 a.m. can shine ten times brighter than at dusk. You can read a newspaper by it.
Most of the database, about 90 percent, is that kind of sky: meteors, military craft, reflections, a thin slice of hoax. Ross walks through those ordinary skies in “UFOs, IFOs, and Glowing Lights.”
The remaining 1 to 10 percent will not sit still under those labels.
“They’re not natural, they’re not human-made, they’re not a hoax, they’re something else,” Ross said.
Credible pilots watch objects stop dead, then leap to 10,000 kilometers per hour and cut a right angle. A physical airframe shatters under thousands of G-forces. There is no heat glow. There is no sonic boom. Crash sites show craters, melted snow, even melted asphalt, and then nothing to bag. No rivets. No tissue.
No papers in a journal the way Apollo rocks filled journals.
Governments released files from the United States (see the 2021 ODNI preliminary UAP assessment), France, Russia, China, and Brazil. The files did not produce a hangar of bodies. A congressional look at the New Mexico rumor, Ross was told, could not produce the evidence. He answers those hearings directly in this Reasons to Believe response.
“Our security isn’t that good,” he said.
If a craft had sat in a shed since the 1930s, it would have leaked. The hopelessness many families now feel is different from a medical chart. It is the sense that something real is hunting the edge of the map, and the official story still sounds like Star Wars.
Physics as Divine Intervention in the Debate
God’s fingerprints, in this story, show up first as laws that will not bend.
“UAPs are real because of the effects that you see, but we also know they’re not physical because they’re violating the laws of physics,” Ross said.
Heat friction at 15,000 kilometers per hour is not optional for matter. Two sonic booms are not optional for a shuttle. Dust in interstellar space is not optional for a crewed ship racing toward the next star. One grain at high speed wrecks the craft. The only probes that might survive would be needle thin, matchstick small, empty of biologists.
The universe itself argues that UFOs aren’t aliens with a passport.
Ross’s open-access paper, “Are We Humans Alone in the Cosmos?”, lists 23 habitability zones that must overlap at once, not merely liquid water. Black-hole radiation is milder here than almost anywhere else. The cosmos must have exactly the mass it has, or the periodic table never yields carbon and oxygen. Two trillion galaxies are not wasted scenery. They are the precise furnace required for one living world.

French researcher Jacques Vallée, who began as a believer in physical visitors, coined the phrase that now carries the residual. He donated a million documents and concluded the objects are interdimensional entities, older than our word UFO, wearing the costume of each century.
Faith, Prayer, and Closing the Door
The pastoral half of Ross’s life is as blunt as the astronomy.
Close encounters track with the occult the way smoke tracks with fire.
In Soviet years he spoke about 25 times to scientists who often chose UFOs as the topic. About a quarter of one audience, he said, were clearly demon-possessed. The others did not argue.
“They said, oh yeah, we know.” He returned in 1994. Occult physics research had faded. Encounter reports had dropped by a factor of ten.
“I don’t know how much more proof you need that these are demonic beings.”
Hawaii, Alaska, the Yukon, and British Columbia light up with stories. Iowa and South Dakota stay quieter.
Beautiful “paradise” towns, he noticed, often run after crystals and fortune-telling as if the view were not enough. Animals flinch first. Dogs, cows, and horses allied to a household that opened a door take the blow. Children who will not sleep, who speak of vague visitors when the lamp goes out, are not always “going through a phase.”
Ross tells parents to look for the invitation.
Prayer here is not a candle under a poster of a saucer. It is renouncing the Ouija board, the “harmless” game, the object a previous owner left in a closet.
“He broke off the relationship and that was the end of his UFO encounters.”
Churches that never teach the risk send students into slumber parties unarmed.
Community discernment, family house-cleaning, and a simple yes to Jesus are the intercession this story keeps repeating.
The Turning Point: Interdimensional Entities, Not Neighbors
The turning point is a change of category.
What the public named first contact, long-time researchers named interdimensional entities. A hundred twenty years ago the same presence drifted like a slow dirigible. In World War II it became a Foo Fighter at the speed of sound. Now it mimics ships at 25,000 kilometers per hour. The story it tells keeps pace with the textbooks.
First the far side of the moon, then Venus, then Mars, then another star system, each alibi retired when ordinary people learned the surface was lethal.
That moving mask is spiritual deception with a smile. Secret knowledge. A small healing that leaves the mind worse.
Texts received in trance that pull readers off the gospel. The Urantia Book is Ross’s plain example. The goal, he said, is to keep a soul from committing its life to Jesus Christ, even to hurry that soul out of time. Suicide clusters around the close encounters.
The greater miracle in the files is not a recovered widget.
It is a person who shuts the door and watches the sky go quiet.
Recovery Means Discernment, Not a New Obsession
Recovery, for Ross, is not becoming a full-time UAP watcher.
As a pastor he warns of two errors: ignoring the angelic realm so the church is unprepared, or feeding on it until fear becomes the ministry. There are more righteous angels than fallen ones. Michael Heiser, he said, helped North American churches take the unseen seriously without drowning in it.
The Encyclopedia Galactica some still hope to download from the stars is already on the nightstand.
Ross once sat in a class under Carl Sagan, who wanted radio telescopes pointed at a wiser civilization. Ross muttered to the student beside him that we already have that book. Sagan overheard and dismissed Scripture as an impossible moral load.
“That’s the very message of the book,” Ross said.
None of us can live up to it. That is why God came to do what we cannot.
Fantasy itself is not the enemy. Humans are the only species that spends scarce calories on it, and that hunger also drives mathematics and wonder. Star Wars can stay on the shelf. It just cannot interpret the crater with no debris.
No Disclosure Has the Final Word
Skeptics who shrugged the whole file as kook lore now have military witnesses they cannot laugh off.
Believers who insisted every light was a physical cousin from deep space now have physics that will not cooperate. Ross’s counsel to both is the same. UFOs aren’t aliens. The residual is real, harmful at close range, and answerable.
“They can’t touch you unless you give them permission. If you’ve given them permission, you need to take the permission away.”
He hopes pilots, parents, pastors, and late-night scrollers will test every spirit, clear the house, and refuse the distraction. The Creator who tuned a universe to one living world is not threatened by a light that leaves no wreckage. Spiritual deception wants your gaze. Give it back to Him.
