In the spring of 2022, Pastor Steve Kim and his family in East Vancouver experienced miracles of healing that transformed their lives. As their faith over fear guided them through a storm of cancer diagnoses, their home, once filled with laughter and the pulse of Reign City Church’s ministry, became a testament to God’s redemptive power.
A Family Tested by Cancer
Early 2022 brought devastation to the Kim family.
Steve’s teenage daughter faced a dire brain tumor diagnosis, threatening her life. “It was aggressive,” Steve recalls, his voice heavy. Soon after, Steve learned he had too had cancer, colon cancer, caught early but daunting.
“It was one blow after another,” he says, “it left us reeling.”
Doctors offered grim outlooks.
Surgery for his young daughter risked permanent damage, while Steve’s treatment loomed with uncertainty.
“My father battled cancer,” Steve shares, “and I feared the same path.” The Kims questioned: “Why us? Where was God in this trial?”
Divine Miracles in the Storm
Yet, in the chaos, the miracles of God’s hand began to move. Steve’s daughter’s tumor, originally deemed inoperable, was suddenly found to be accessible after a second scan; a shift doctors called “unusual.”
Steve’s stage one cancer, detected during a routine check up, also allowed for swift intervention.
“God protected me because it’s not my time yet,” he insists. These moments, sudden, improbable and precise, bore what Steve calls “God’s fingerprints.”
The Kims’ Reign City Church community rallied instantly. Elders anointed his daughter with oil, invoking James 5:14, while Steve’s own surgery was bathed in prayer. “There wasn’t a moment we were alone,” he says. Across Vancouver, prayer chains formed, with believers lifting the family’s burden in unison.
Faith Over Fear Sustains
For Steve, a pastor with a Master’s degree in divinity, the crisis wasn’t just physical, it was theological and a test of his faith.
“I know how this works,” he tells Jan The Miracle Hunter. “Jesus said, in this world you will have trouble.”
Rejecting the notion that God was the cause of their suffering, Steve pointed to Genesis, where humanity’s rebellion introduced the pollution of sin. He clung to God’s redemptive plan. “He had a plan through Jesus,” he explains, “to recreate that Garden of Eden.”
The Kims leaned into prayer, both personal and communal. Steve’s wife led nightly intercessions, while their church held vigils. Social media amplified their plea, helping to draw in strangers to pray. “People I’d never met were fasting,” Steve marvels. Anointed cloths, blessed by elders, rested on his daughter’s hospital bed, a tangible symbol of faith as seen in Acts 19:12.
Healing Beyond Medicine
By mid-2022, glimmers of miracles emerged.
In definance of doctor’s warnings and cautions, Steve’s daughter came out of post-surgery with no signs of cognitive decline.
“They called it a reflex,” Steve says, “but I saw her fighting.”
Steve’s own recovery was equally swift; his cancer, caught at stage one, required only minimal treatment. “I ate junk in my 20s,” he admits with a nervous chuckle, “but God turned it to good.”
These small victories, dismissed by some as mere coincidence, were seen by Steve as divine intervention and resurrection.
“The resurrection is God’s doing,” he declares. “He always resurrects our lives.”
Restoration Beyond the Physical
The physical healings were extraordinary, but the miracles experienced by the Kims’ were beyond spiritual.
The ordeal reshaped their family’s faith, drawing them closer to God and each other. “We put God at the center,” Steve says.
His daughter, now thriving, speaks of her ordeal with a maturity that stuns her parents. Steve, once haunted by fear, now preaches with renewed conviction, urging others to trust God’s goodness.
Humor peppers their recovery.
Steve jokes about his “spam-fueled” youth, while his daughter teases her “bionic” scar. Yet, the deeper transformation is undeniable: a family once shaken now stands unshakable, rooted in daily Scripture and prayer.
Doctors Witness Miracles
The medical professionals were left speechless.
Steve’s oncologist, after reviewing his rapid recovery, admitted, “This is rare.”
His daughter’s neurosurgeon marveled at her cognitive clarity, saying, “I’ve never seen this with such a tumor.”
For Steve, these reactions echo God’s power. “I want doctors to see what prayer can do,” he says, hoping his family’s story will soften skeptical hearts.
The Kims aim to inspire beyond medicine. “If you’re facing cancer, don’t let the diagnosis have the final word,” Steve urges. “God is still writing miracles.”
A Testimony to Triumph
Today, Steve preaches with vigor, his daughter dances without fear, and their family radiates hope.
“I feared suffering,” Steve admits, “but God showed me triumph.”
Their story is now shared on Jan The Miracle Hunter’s YouTube channel where it is a beacon for those in search of hope. “No storm is too big,” Steve insists. “Keep looking at God, not the waves.”
