Putting God First: Han’s Incredible Journey from Job Loss to Divine Financial Miracles

Han sharing her financial testimony of putting God first and experiencing divine provision

The year 2020 brought uncertainty to many, but for Han and her husband Malcolm, it was a season of putting God first and stepping out in bold faith.

As architects working in construction, they navigated the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic with a quiet confidence rooted in their newfound understanding of God’s promises.

Han recalls the shift vividly: after embracing the full gospel in 2019, she began applying biblical principles not just to healing, but to every aspect of life, including finances. Little did she know that standing firm in her beliefs would lead to a cascade of divine provision, transforming their lives and opening doors to ministry.

What started as a test of faith amid mandates and restrictions blossomed into a testimony of God’s faithfulness. Han’s story isn’t just about money, it’s about aligning desires with God’s kingdom, watching as He turns potential loss into abundant gain.

Through car accidents, balloon payments, and unexpected job changes, Han learned that putting God first unlocks miracles that go beyond the material.

The Financial Crisis Unfolds

In the midst of the pandemic, Han’s workplace imposed strict COVID protocols, including mandatory testing and masking. Having witnessed healings firsthand, laying hands on those with fevers and seeing them recover, Han couldn’t compromise.

“I’ve seen too much of what God has done,” she shared. “I can’t sit back and bow down to the worldly system.”

As an essential worker in construction, she continued showing up on-site, declaring scriptures like “No plague shall come near my dwelling.”

But the mandates escalated.

Voluntary testing turned mandatory, and refusal meant unpaid leave, followed by termination. Han filed for a religious exemption, even printing testimonies of God’s healings to include in her file. “God’s word says this. I’ve seen healing,” she told HR. Despite her stand, the exemption was denied, and she lost her full-time job at the university. Her co-worker faced the same fate.

“Where are we going to have the money?” Han wondered, echoing the fears many felt during those uncertain times.

The crisis peaked as deadlines loomed. Yet Han and Malcolm refused to borrow from friends or family. Instead, they applied faith principles: “When you believe that you receive, then you shall have,” Han explained, drawing from Hebrews 11:1

Their prior experiences, like a car accident reimbursement exactly matching a tax shortage, bolstered their resolve. But now, with income gone, the stakes were higher.

Divine Intervention in Unexpected Ways

The very day Han learned of her termination, divine timing kicked in.

As she and her co-worker stepped out for lunch—barred from eating in the office—Malcolm called with astonishing news. A gentleman they’d met through church, aware of the housing needs for people relocating to Dallas to learn the full gospel, reached out. Knowing Han and Malcolm’s architectural expertise and faithfulness, he offered them a role in managing ministry housing.

“It almost as if God wanted to see if I would stand up for His word,” Han reflected. “And I did because I’ve seen everything that He has done.”

This opportunity wasn’t random; it aligned perfectly with their skills. They began scouting properties, drawing renovation plans, and furnishing homes for newcomers staying in hotels or Airbnbs. What seemed like a closed door at her secular job swung open to kingdom work, providing not just income but purpose.

God’s hand was evident in the details.

For the first house, they bid at listing price amid competition. A doctor from California outbid them by $25,000, but Han held firm: “If it’s meant to be, God wants us to have this house.” The next day, the seller chose their offer, citing a sense of peace about it.

This pattern of divine intervention continued, turning potential setbacks into setups for greater blessings.

Faith and Prayer Mobilize Provision

Han’s journey was anchored in childlike faith and practical obedience

Fresh in the full gospel, she and Malcolm avoided “unlearning” wrong teachings. “We were fortunate enough to learn from the very beginning the correct way,” Han said. They embraced tithing as first fruits, calculating 10% from each paycheck and giving it immediately, not at month’s end.

“That’s yours, Lord. We don’t touch it,” she explained.

This shift stemmed from scriptures like Malachi 3, promising open heavens for those who honor God with their finances. Prayer wasn’t begging; it was declaring God’s word. When a $23,000 balloon payment loomed on their mortgage, they prayed in faith, believing for provision. Weeks before the deadline, Malcolm landed an architectural project covering the exact amount, plus tithing.

“When you’re faithful, he’s faithful,” Han affirmed.

Community played a key role, though subtly. Through church connections, opportunities arose, like the housing ministry. Han’s stand during COVID inspired others, and their testimonies spread, encouraging believers to apply faith to finances. Biblical examples, such as first fruits in Canaan, reinforced their actions.

“Seeking your kingdom first,” Han noted, changes desires to match God’s, fueling a cycle of provision.

The Turning Point: Houses and Breakthroughs

Six months after the first house, the need for a second emerged.

In a neighborhood with five properties for sale, most with pools requiring high maintenance, Han and Malcolm targeted the one without. Miraculously, while others engaged in bidding wars, they were the sole bidders.

“We got the second house that we were the only bidder,” Han marveled.

The deal sweetened further: an estate sale allowed negotiation for all needed furniture at their price. Located just one street down, the houses formed a perfect ministry hub. These breakthroughs contrasted worldly logic, high competition, rising costs, with faith’s reality. Doctors of finance might call it luck; Han called it God’s favor. “There’s no way where God’s hand is not in this,” she said.

Recovery and Transformation Through Faith

With the houses secured, Han’s role shifted to full-time management, hosting believers eager to grow in faith. Challenges remained: furnishing involved heavy lifting, feeling like a “moving company.” Yet each step built resilience.

Financially stable, they tithed faithfully, watching God multiply.

The greater miracle was internal. Putting God first realigned priorities.

“Your desire changes. You desire what he wants,” Han shared. From secular jobs to kingdom work, their lives transformed. Malcolm’s project wins and housing successes deepened their marriage and purpose. Han jokes about God’s efficiency, but solemnly credits obedience. “We are the enforcer to heaven on earth,” she says, emphasizing action over pleading.

Humor lightens the tale, like negotiating deals on clearances, proving “God is for sales.” But the core shift: from insecurity in finances to trust, fostering spiritual growth.

Skeptics might dismiss it as coincidence, but Han’s story challenges that.

Financial planners like producer Taalya Mark affirm biblical prosperity, noting God’s heart for abundance. “If we’re faithful to him, he is without a doubt faithful to you,” Taayla echoed in the after-talk.

Doctors and professionals Han encountered were stunned by her peace amid loss. Her testimony inspires: “Take baby steps. Step out and believe, and He’ll do it.” For those struggling, she urges honoring God with first fruits, building intimacy. “Knowing who he is, his goodness, his kindness,” unlocks provision.

Han’s miracle signifies that no crisis, financial or otherwise, has the final word when God is first. It calls believers to sow generously, expect returns, and live abundantly for His kingdom.
