How a Dead Dream Doorway Opened Pastor David Chan’s Path to Divine Calling

Healed knee symbolizing divine healing after ACL injury and mysterious dead dream doorway

In 2010, young David Chan stood at the dead dream doorway of his athletic prime in bustling Hong Kong. Sweat glistened on the court as he dribbled past defenders, his eyes locked on the hoop amid a growing spiritual hunger. Basketball wasn’t just a hobby; it was his life’s blueprint, a dream woven into every practice and game until divine healing reshaped his path.

“I don’t want to be a religious guy,” he’d often say, pushing aside church duties for the thrill of the sport while ignoring his deepening spiritual hunger.

But in a split second, everything changed.

A sharp twist, a pop in his right knee, and David crumpled to the floor. The diagnosis hit like a buzzer-beater gone wrong: a torn ACL, surgery required, and a future on the court forever altered.

The Shattered Dream: A Crisis on the Court

Post-surgery, David’s world narrowed to pain and limitation. His knee wouldn’t bend like before, the skin numb to touch, and his speed a shadow of its former self.

“I could still go to the basketball court,” he later shared, “but not like before.”

The injury didn’t just sideline him; it crushed his spirit. Years of training, the roar of crowds in his imagination, all vanished.

Doctors offered little hope beyond basic recovery. No more professional aspirations, they implied. David, who had served in church since age 14 but prioritized hoops, felt burned out. “I served and served,” he recalled, but the fire had dimmed.

This crisis wasn’t merely physical; it exposed a deeper void, a reluctance to face anything beyond his human ambitions.

In desperation, he sought answers beyond medicine. Hearing of a healing crusade in Hong Kong led by a Malaysian pastor, David attended, hoping for a fix to reclaim his athletic path.

But the event delivered something unexpected, setting the stage for a profound shift.

Divine Intervention: Oil, Light, and the Holy Spirit's Touch

At the crusade, the pastor prayed from afar. Suddenly, David felt an inexplicable sensation: “like some oil on my head, on my hands, all my body.” A heavy presence enveloped him, peaceful yet powerful, filled with joy. He fell to the ground, slain in the spirit, conscious but immersed in bright lights and glory.

His leg wasn’t healed that night, but his heart revived.

“Something changed in my life,” he testified.

The burnout lifted, igniting a hunger for Pentecostal gatherings. In subsequent meetings, divine intervention struck fully: his knee mended, surpassing pre-injury strength. “I run faster and faster, jump higher and higher,” he marveled. “Better than before, next level.”

This wasn’t coincidence; it was God’s timing, turning a dead dream doorway into an entry point for spiritual awakening

Yet, even healed, David clung to basketball, resisting the whispers of a greater purpose.

Faith and Prayer: Hunger, Thirst, and the Jonah Escape

As David’s spiritual hunger grew, so did divine prompts.

Baptized in the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues, he heard an audible voice one night: gentle, deep, and kind, saying, “Help my church, be a pastor.” He knew it was God, but fear gripped him.

“In my mind, I know it’s from God, but I don’t want to respond,” he admitted, comparing himself to Jonah fleeing his call.

He escaped into his restored athletic pursuits, convincing himself the voice was unreal. But proximity to people brought unbidden insights, the gift of word of knowledge. “Suddenly, I know something about them,” he said, initially scared by revelations about friends, family, and strangers. Validation came when he accurately described the interviewer’s great-aunt in Hong Kong, detailing her past and problems without prior knowledge.

This spiritual hunger, defined as surrendering fleshly ambitions and relying wholly on God, became his anchor. “Give up by their flesh first,” he taught, “then rely on Him.” Prayer fueled it; he devoured videos of ministers like Kathryn Kuhlman and Rodney Howard-Browne, pleading, “If one day You use me like them, I would like to respond.”

Community amplified this faith.

In 2017, at a Hong Kong meeting with Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne, hands were laid on him. “I got a huge blessing, great fire of God,” David recounted.

Boldness surged, ending his reluctance to preach.

The Turning Point: Prophetic Fire and Surrender

Days after the impartation, the same voice returned: “I call you before… It’s time to do that.” This marked the shift.

Quitting his job, David stepped into full-time ministry, living by faith. A U.S. prophecy confirmed it: his “hidden” ministry would “10x,” shaking systems and carrying a torch for new fires.

Doctors might have seen only a recovered athlete, but David recognized divine healing and calling. “Freely receive, freely give,” he emphasized, contrasting human limits with God’s power.

Recovery and Transformation: From Hidden Ministry to Global Torch

Embracing his divine calling, David became Senior Pastor of Jordan Church in Hong Kong, traveling to Pakistan and China. Challenges persisted, initial fear of his gifts, balancing life, but spiritual growth flourished.

“Even long believers fall under the anointing,” he shared, describing peace and joy in being slain in the spirit.

The greater miracle? Personal surrender. Once basketball-obsessed, David now embodies spiritual hunger, teaching others to seek conferences for revival.

“The presence of God so strong upon the people,” he explained, reviving lukewarm hearts.

Humor lightens his story: joking about his first U.S. trip, funded generously, or the “David-shaped place on the carpet” from falling under the power.

Yet, the transformation runs deep, inspiring global outreach.

Inspiring Skeptics Through Divine Healing

Skeptics, like even Jan who once confronted the inexplicable. She dismissed being slain in the spirit as “fake” until experiencing it: a lightning bolt, jelly legs, and overwhelming peace. Then, chronic neck pain, plaguing her for 20 years, vanished instantly when David prayed. “It hasn’t returned,” she testified. “Praise God. He’s so good.”

David’s journey challenges professionals and seekers: “God really used some pastors,” he says, urging attendance at gatherings for anointing. For those in crisis, his message rings clear, no dead dream is final. It’s a doorway to greater purpose when met with spiritual hunger.

If you’re fleeing like Jonah, surrender. As the interviewer urges, “Give your life to Him, you won’t regret it.” Share this testimony; let it spark faith in others. God orchestrates miracles, turning shattered paths into divine callings.
