Refuge City now stands as a beacon of hope in the battle against sex trafficking through spiritual warfare, yet its founder Rana once lived what appeared to be the ultimate American Dream.

The sun shone brightly over Boston as this successful lawyer with a thriving career was married to an Olympic gold medalist who coached at Harvard. Their world seemed filled with financial success and high social status. Sensory details of luxury surrounded them, yet a deeper crisis brewed beneath the surface.

This seemingly perfect life was about to be dismantled, paving the way for a divine journey into leading Refuge City and confronting the horrors of sex trafficking.

The Crisis: Shattered Illusions and the Reality of Sex Trafficking

Behind the polished image, Rana and her husband battled drug addiction.

The marriage dissolved due to these struggles and safety concerns for their children. Rana identified as an atheist for 15 years during this time.

“I thought I was an atheist for 15 years,” she shares. “I thought I was God. I thought I was the one that was making the good things happen.”

Simultaneously, a national crisis raged. Sex trafficking ranks high in Texas, second only to California. The Texas Trafficking Triangle uses interstates between San Antonio, Houston and Dallas to move victims rapidly. This 350 billion dollar industry often intersects with drug cartels. Contrary to movie depictions, grooming is the primary tactic.

“It is less about Taken and more about getting to know the child where the parents are not paying attention,” Rana explains.

Predators exploit children who feel unseen or unloved at home through online platforms and gifts.

Divine Intervention: A Calling to Lead Refuge City

A move to Dallas and her grandfather’s passing sparked initial openness to faith.

Seeing Jeremiah 29:11 at church resonated deeply. Though she attended Watermark church for nearly two years while mentally substituting God for Jesus, a sermon on Jeremiah 29:13 prompted her to seek truth. Studying the Book of John led to a heartfelt encounter with Christ.

“This is the man I have been looking for,” she realized.

Then came the specific call to lead Refuge City, an aftercare ministry for sex trafficking victims. Her initial reaction was resistance and tears, fearing the emotional weight. Yet divine timing and grace equipped her for the role.

Faith and Prayer: Engaging Spiritual Warfare in Recovery

Rana responded to the call with deep faith and prayer

Refuge City steps in after law enforcement and crisis stabilization to help victims aged 11 to 24 rebuild their lives. The program offers GED schooling, transportation support and tattoo removal while focusing on discipleship. A faith based financial model sustains the work.

“The way I lead Refuge City is that whatever the kids need I will do that and I expect Him to pay for it. And He does,” Rana states.

The team trains in spiritual warfare, recognizing that trauma can open doors to spiritual oppression. Prayer becomes a cornerstone for addressing anxiety, depression and other manifestations.

The Turning Point: Moments of Miraculous Deliverance

Turning points often came through bold prayers. One boy from a Santa Muerte cult background felt immediate change. After Rana prayed that everything not from the kingdom of God would leave, he confirmed feeling stuff departing.

“He could feel the demonic leaving him.”

Another girl experiencing a panic attack received prayer. “In the name of Jesus, anxiety go in Jesus name,” Rana commanded. Relief was instant. The girl later noted the power in those words.

Such events contrasted professional diagnoses with the power of faith.

Recovery and Transformation: Holistic Healing at Refuge City

Recovery involves practical and spiritual elements.

Victims engage in education and discipleship to renew their minds with scripture. Many transition from believing their trafficker is a partner to embracing freedom in Christ. Rana notes that agreement with negative influences must be broken.

Her own transformation stands as a testament. Skills from law and other fields now serve the ministry. The work brings joy despite challenges.

“You can not have what I just talked about the joy of ministry unless you give up what I gave up,” she reflects.

Greater miracles include restored hope and disciples making disciples.

Impact and Conclusion: Inspiring Change in the Fight Against Sex Trafficking

Professionals in law enforcement and social services witness the grip of sex trafficking daily. Stories from Refuge City challenge them and offer hope. Rana aims to raise awareness and inspire others to action. Her journey shows that no past is wasted when surrendered to God.

For those in crisis or considering their calling, her testimony encourages stepping out in faith. Refuge City demonstrates that spiritual warfare paired with practical care can bring profound change.

No circumstance is beyond divine intervention.
